Reply: (edit)Have you installed all your drivers and updates yet? Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed? Is your ethernet adaptor drivers installed? How about the video card/drivers? I normally do not activate until I have the computer fully up and running and installed SP2. There could be a host of reasons why it won't work, mostly related to updates to the computer. Do that first and then activate.

Reply: (edit)your windows software should activate regardless of what updates you have installed. i think all it reads is the software i.d. and product key. it only takes a few seconds to complete once it goes online and contacts their server. not so sure on this but if your problem persists, you might want to contact the microsoft tech hotline.
