Reply: (edit)Don't be too surpised if it stays expired wheather reactivating or reinstalling...happened to me after 18 months.[legit disc as well] You may have to make a phone call to get a new one [check the activation window to do that], which also may expire in time or can't be used again if you have to reinstall after that...happened to me as well. I've been using a saved complete setup that I burned prior to the first expiry and subsequent re-installs would not activate no matter what I tried, including the wpa.dbl trick from an older saved setup than the one I'm using now. Start dialing !

Reply: (edit)Product activation has expired. Activation Expired. Boot into SAFE MODE (that's the F8 key) and open regedit.exe Locate this following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ change the "RegDone" key value fron 1 to 0 Then find this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\ change "Activation Required" key value from 0 to 1 reboot and see if you are prompted for registration.

Reply: (edit)I think "birdlegs" was right about logging on into Safe Mode -- don't dismiss that idea without first trying that out. Remember, you are trying to recover some data, and that could solve that problem, regardless of the activation/no-phone dilemma. Other ideas: • If Fat32 (and a floppy drive), boot with a Win9X floppy, and access your data that way (using DOS commands/syntax). • Beg/borrow/steal a Knoppix (Linux) CD that runs totally from the CD, and access your data (and a lot more). • Beg/borrow/steal (or create your own) WinPE or BartPE CD, and access your data (and a lot more). Now... how were you intending on activating before you "forgot"? No phone, so it was not gonna be Dial-Up. Not ADSL either, obviously. Doubtful it was gonna be thru a cable service. Hmmm... satellite? If so, then you wouldn't have a problem, would you? So, if it's a licensed version, then it is difficult to imagine how you would be in such a quandary.
