Ok I have a major hassle on my hands. I had a dual boot system running windows 98 and windows xp professional (on the same HD but in different partitions). Windows 98 wasnt working properly so i fdisked the partition and reinstalled windows 98 now i have problems! The menu no longer appears asking me what operating system I want to use. If I set the windows 98 partition to active windows 98 loads fine but if I set the windows xp partition to active, it hangs at the point that the menu would normally appear at. Ok now I dont care for windows 98 anymore I just want XP back! What im thinking is that ill have to repair the boot.ini file but this is impossible when you cant access windows xp in the first place (i have read many times how to edit the boot.ini through utilities when you have windows xp open but nowhere can i find a way of editing this file without having windows xp running, im not sure of the location of the boot.ini file and i have found a way to access the files on the other partition using partition magic so if i knew where the boot.ini file was located i could edit it and id be happy)!!! Is there another way to repair windows xp? All i want is XP to work again, I couldnt give a toss if I never even saw 98 again. There has to be some way to fix this problem. Any help is appreciated. Cheers

i've read somewhere that u should NOT install win 98 after Win xp. to create a dual os, you have to install the '98 1st - then the xp...

i'll try to find the article - on how to *maybe* revert the damage it already done... but no promises ^_^

For a dual-boot system, the OS loader files (ntldr, boot.ini, etc.) are stored on drive c: in the boot sector. If you went and fdisked & reformatted that partition, you erased them along w/ Win98. You'll need to reinstall XP, as the guy above said, to restore those files.
