Comment:

This is an old secondhand computer with no operating discs for Windows besides I am trying to recover loads of photos that are on the hard drive.

When the system starts up it shows the windows frontpage then comes up with the following message

Window Networking

unable to load the Dynamic Library MSNP 32.Dll

Then the next error that comes up is

Explorer

This program has performed an illegal opertion and will be shut down.

The detail screen produces the following
statement

Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module Explorer exce 0167:00401F31

I have not even been able to start windows in the safe mode.

Any help to get windows back would be great

To recover the photos, remove the hard drive and hook it up as a slave (or on the second controller) on another computer.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

ham30 is right on that one. if it's just to recovery date from that disc, don't bother to fix an old, messed up win98 installation. remove the hard disc and connect it to another pc.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'
