My friend has a Packard Bell machine and when it is booted up she gets a message saying windows cannot find this file C:\windows\system32\bbixwkig\csrss.exe If Anyone knows what it is and how we can recover the file it would be appreciated.

I suspect your friend has a baddy there. I don't have that system file. Run Ad-Aware and Spybot search and destroy to remove whatever is causing that message. If they cannot remove it, there is a program called a-squared which will find and remove most trojans. These can be downloaded at Majorgeeks.com

She has Ad-aware so I did run that, but its still there on startup. I shall get her to download Spybot and try that first then a squared. Thanks for your help. I will post again if it works or not.

Probably most Virus and Spyware scans work better in Windows Safe-Mode. To find out what each Startup(or Process) item does or means, and any recommendation as to if you should close the process: Task List Programs NOTE--Open Task Manager. I'd say she should download & install WindowsDefender straight from the Microsoft website and also she might want to open up msconfig & uncheck that particular executable from starting up before removing that "baddy". end process tree from TaskManager too. Override
