My friend has a Packard Bell machine and when it is booted up she gets a message saying windows cannot find this fileC:\windows\system32\bbixwkig\csrss.exe
If Anyone knows what it is and how we can recover the file it would be appreciated.

I suspect your friend has a baddy there. I don't have that system file. Run Ad-Aware and Spybot search and destroy to remove whatever is causing that message. If they cannot remove it, there is a program called a-squared which will find and remove most trojans. These can be downloaded at Majorgeeks.com

She has Ad-aware so I did run that, but its still there on startup. I shall get her to download Spybot and try that first then a squared. Thanks for your help. I will post again if it works or not.

Probably most Virus and Spyware scans work better in Windows Safe-Mode.
To find out what each Startup(or Process) item
does or means, and any recommendation as to if you should close the process:
Task List ProgramsNOTE--Open Task Manager. If you have two
csrss.exe
running, then one is good, and from Microsoft, and the other is a virus, such as the Trojan.Gutta or W32.Netsky.AB@mm or W32.Buchon.A@mm or Backdoor.Botnachala

I'd say she should download & install WindowsDefender straight from the Microsoft website and also she might want to open up msconfig & uncheck that particular executable from starting up before removing that "baddy". end process tree from TaskManager too.

C:\windows\system32\bbixwkig\csrss.exe
Hi all, I got here to run Windows Defender, Ad-aware Nothing flagged up also ran anti virus nothing there either. She only has one csrss in Task Manager. Did msconfig and it isnt in the startup at all. Any other suggestions.

I guess we all agree that you have a trojan and/or keylogging program and that it took the name of a known Microsoft executable.
please copy/paste this url and try the free scan.
