I just upgraded to service pack 1 last week, and I just noticed today that my media player would not add any new files...I have a fairly sizeable collection, with 10,000 or so wma's and mp3's, so I like having them all sorted out under media player. Before I upgraded to SP1(and also 40 other security updates from the windowsupdate site), I had put about 10 or 20 albums into the media library. they are still there, but there is no way to add anything new. tried adding file/folder, and searching computer. Even tried selecting "add media file when played". no luck. and i went to use the "media library management wizard"(included with wmp9xp bonus pack) because I thought maybe I could circumvent this problem all together by making all of my albums playlists, and it said "media library management wizard only works for windows media player for windows xp" as soon as the program started. So I'm stuck. It doesn't seem to do anything different between mp3's and wma's(treats them both the same). I've looked all over the net and on microsoft's web site for this problem, but no dice. Is it a problem with copy protection? my registry? I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Media Player. Any help would be appreciated. And if I can't fix this, could anyone suggest an equally/better quality media player that has a media library that might even possibly be able to import the windows media player album information? by the way, every single file I have is not copy protected, I know because they were all copied from my own Cd's. Thanks-

Smokyyy

Hello Smokyyy, you might look into Winamp 5.1; it has just been released. It contains a media library, I beleive what you are looking for. I downloaded it and it will blow the socks off the competition - no comparison.
There are 2 versions of 5.1; a lite version and a full version - both are free. I chose the full version and am very happy with it. Many features, too numerous to list here. Good luck!

Service pack 1 has no codecs shipped with it. Microsoft wants you to buy them from Indego,at 15 bucks a pop. If you have an older xp running some where look in the drive for a file called wm9codecs.This is the installer file downloaded from the mediaplayer site before sp1 came out. I loaded the files on to my sp1 xp home setup and now mediaplayer and moviemaker and mediaencoder work just fine.
