WIn98 will not boot. Was OK then not. See below. Can you comment on the process to repair a damaged WIN98 install on a dual boot WIN98 XP machine. All was well with both WIN98 and XP-Pro and then one day booting to WIN caused a error that said user.exe is corrupt you must install windows, What I am not sure of is how to reinstall windows to C: without disrupting any of the other programs on C: XP is on I: and I install ALL apps on C: as it is 40GIG. I: is just a 6GIG partitian on a 12GIG drive. Any help or dialogue is appreciated.

You say you instal all apps on C although XP is on I. Are your apps installed "IN" xp or 98? ie are they XP's apps? If so then formatting your C drive is out of the question. Boot into XP. Use explorer to delete the contents of C:\Windows. this will wipe your 98 system. Check your C drive for the following files: Boot.ini NTLDR NTDETECT.COM BOOTSECT.DOS They should be located on root directory of C drive. Make a backup copy of these files on floppy or CD if you have a burner. Reinstal 98 into your C:\Windows folder. This may alter your bootsector removing access to your XP system. This is where the backup comes in. Copy the four files back to the root of your C drive and your dualboot should be restored.
