Hello, I got a p4 networked to a p1 using an enhanced 100mpbs crossover cable. On p1 i got win 98se runnin, the other p4 i got win xp pro running. My network seems to be running REALLY REALLY slow. Even though it says connected at 100mpbs speed, only 1-5% of the network get utilized according to the winxp performance chart. My file transfer are very slow, they feel like 20kb/s or more slow dunno. How can I increase my file transfer speed and network? I have a simple network, nothing fancy or anything. Have a read of Network forum posts 6611 and 6839. I think you are running into a system problem (P1) and not a networking problem. Got this from http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/#Server You could always take a look at upping the DefaultRcvWindow=32767 in Win98 and GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize=dword:00007fff in XP. Switching to using NetBuei internally may help. But I think your problem is the slow p1 system. Probably has the old 60-80 nsec ram, a 3600rpm HDD running in PIO mode and onboard L2 cache. These things will slow down network transfers.
