Win XP wont recognize sound card

I just put my sound card in the PCI slot and powered up my PC. There are no "found new hardware" dialogs and when i run "add new hardware" halfway through copying drivers, my machine rebooted....do I have to disable my on board audio? someone said i didnt have to...but, I don't think that has much to do with the fact that it can't even FIND the new card.
Try putting the sound card in a different PCI card slot, the PCI slot that you are using might have a problem.
The likelihood of that happening is beyond extremely remote.

I'd disable the onboard for good measure too. It can't hurt anything (you can always re-enable it), and it may just solve the problem. I would also suggest changing PCI slots.
