Hello there

Last nite I changed the time on the domain controller because it was 10 minutes fast.
This morning when people with Windows XP tried to log on they got the message: "The current time on this computer and the current time on the network are different. For more information blah lbah blah."
The only thing i did change was the time by 10 minutes. i didnt change any time zones or anything like that.

I thought that this was supposed to update automatically. Am i wrong in assuming this?
I did find that the windows time service on the DC had stopped but i have since restarted that which didn't make a difference.
I jumped onto the Microsoft website and found a command to put into a command prompt which was "w32tm /resync" but when i typed this in the following error came up: "The computer did not resync because no time data was available".
I also used the command "net time \\server /set /yes" but this drew a blank also.
This problem is getting rather urgent. I have phoned various Help Desks associated with my organization but they aren't very helpful.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Joe

I'd just like to add that the symptoms listed above are preventing me from logging on and accessing any network resources.

Joe

Just curious, the users attempting to log on, they are limited accounts? What if somebody with DA rights logs on? Still no joy?

Hope you guys don't use a volume license! MS won't help you a snitch if you do.

Hello All

After much ducking around throughout the fay I was able to come up with a solution for the windows xp problem I was having.
Firstly I got into the network settings and removed the computer from the domain and had it set to a work group. (restart)
Then After the computer had restarted I had to set it as a member of the original domain. (restart)
Then on restart i had to log back onto the local machine as administrator, go into the command prompt and type in this command: net time \\server /set /yes.
Then I logged off and logged onto the domain as the normal user. I had to fiddle around lots to get all that done in the proper order and there were a few bits where i had to hold my tongue the right way otherwise settings didn't hold but I got there in the end.
I also had to make sure that all the computers were set on the same time format which I decided would be 24 hour time.
The microsoft website knowledge base was as useful as a slap in the back of the head with a dead fish and various other help desks associated with my organisation didn't help either.

Cheers
Joe
