Hi,
I have been running windows xp for two weeks now. Today I realized that the system clock is lagging a great deal. I lose on the order of a few minutes in 1 hour. I don't think I had this problem before the day light savings happened. I also checked the BIOS clock, and that seems to be okay. This lagging only seems to happen when XP is running. I have turned off all the hibernation mode, auto power off, etc...
does someone have a similar experience?

u have a compaq computer?...Just wondering cuz i had one that did the same thing...How old is your computer?good luck

I have a Dell Dimension 4300.
Just got it two weeks ago.
I haven't added any new hardware or anything. Pretty much factory-configured.

you can have it synchronize by doubleclicking the clock and click the internet time tab, then click update now.

Did anybody find any solution to this. I am facing the same problem of clock slowing down on my new Dell Dimension 8200 machine.

Try unchecking the "Automatically synchronize with an internet time server" checkbox on the "Internet Time" tab under clock settings.
I have a Dell Dimension 4300, had the same problem earlier and have not had any since the unchecking.
Cheers!

YEs!! someone believes me now! I thought I was alone on this time thing. I'd lose like 5 minutes for every hour or so. I just bought a Dell Di4300 and noticed the clock always slows down. can anyone confirm if RK's advise of unchecking the auto synchro option works??

I have the same problem with my Dell 8200.
I unchecked the autoupdate, and so far it seems to be doing okay, but if you need more help, try the dell support web site. under the FAQ, this problem was specifically addressed.good luck,
jc

I have a Dell 4300 with Windows XP and have the same clock problem as described above. Unchecking the synchronize option did not solve my problem. My Bios is AO1. Does anyone know if upgrading this will solve my problem?

I have a dell dimension 4300 and unchecked the option to sync with the mocrosoft time server and it was actually worse at keeping time. Within 30 minutes, it was already off by about 5 minutes. I just changed the time server to time.nist.gov which is the Nist's atomic clock. I will let you know if this works. Right off the bat, it synced a helluva lot faster than microsoft's time server so hopefully this is a good sign.

That's funny....at work we have 4 Dell 4300's with XP and they all have time problems. Normally, it's not a big deal...but for our call tracker software it makes the time off for reports.
I can't imagine it's a dell issue...but an XP issue. As OS's get so much more complicated, they can't get the simplest increment right!

I have a Dell Dimension 4300 with XP Home
that i bought in January.
First two weeks no problems at all.Now my clock loses about 5 minutes every
30 minutes.I applied the "Symevent" patch to Norton Antivirus 2002 but this did not have any effect.
I have found no answers whatsoever in the Dell forums.
Any ideas?
