My parents computer was having some big problems with Internet Explorer. When the program would open, it would refresh some desktop toolbar and never load a page. So my mom tried to reinstall Windows (Windows XP Service Pack 1A) and it constantly restarts the computer when it gets about 3/4 to loading devices and 34 minutes until intallation is complete. Its not the CD because I tried using the one that I have, and it does the same thing. If you need any additional info just say so. I put that computer together so I can answer any questions you have about it quickly. Thanks in advance for reading.

Remove all the pci devices except the video card, rerun the setup, then reinstall the devices one at a time. If that setup fails it may be the video card or a memory problem. Move the video card to another pci slot if it is pci.

You built that computer yourself? Well you obviously did a poor job, otherwise your parents' browser would be working. Call someone in who knows how to build a computer.

Turning off automatic restart and getting a BSOD error message might give a clue.

To have XP display the error message instead of rebooting:

1. Click Start, and then right-click My Computer.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. Under System failure, click to clear the Automatically restart check box.
5. Click OK, and then click OK.

The browser worked fine for a couple months, but I think that its the spyware and trojans that got on their computer most likely. I built my own before theirs and it works great. No problems at all. My building skills are not the problem, but thanks for trying to help...

Anyways I removed the modem card which was the only pci card that was on there, other than the pci graphics card, and I moved that around, but to no avail. Now I plugged tried turning it on again and the light on the motherboard won't come on. Thanks for all the help but now I have another problem...

You may have a memory problem. If you have 2 memory modules remove 1 and try it. If it doesn't work swap them. Gone for the night. Good luck. Will check back tomorrow.

Ok I tried it with just the one original stick, but it didn't work. So then I swapped the sticks. It still doesn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though. Any more help would be great. Thanks to those who already gave me suggestions, it gave me some hope and something to try at least :).

Again, any help would be great

Before you do all that try unplugging all the usb cables from the back of the machine not just from the devices.

Do you think that maybe formatting the drive would maybe fix whatever the problem is. After format I could try installing again maybe?
