Comment: Hey ok heres the deal all of a sudden the computer startup sounds and all the other ones stopped working so i went to start then control panel then to sounds speech and audio devices there i went to change sound scheme the sounds and audio devices proporties box came up then if i clicked on any of the sounds to test them this error massage would come up: Window Cannot find the file %SyestemRoot%\media\Windows XP error.wav. Do You want to use this file for this event anyway? do u guys have any sugestions if my dad finds out he'll kill me lol please help thanks -Ben

Reply: (edit)Go back to sounds and audio devices properties under the sounds tab and click on the drop down arrow and choose windows default and click apply and see if that does anything. loling at your dad killing you? Now that is funny. Just tell dad when dad ask what has happened here son? I dont know dad first I see of the problem.

Reply: (edit)Do a search for this, C:\WINDOWS\Media That is the folder that should have all those sounds in it. See if the folder exist. You will have to go into folder options in the control panel and click on view and scroll down the list and uncheck the box hide protected operating system files before you search for it or you wont be able to see it. Media is the name of the folder they should be in.

Reply: (edit)Ilost all audio -no cd play back- no media player. I fixed it. Went to Start Clicled All Programs Clicked All Accessories Clicked Entertainment Clicked Volume Control Below the Play Control Volume Control slider clicked Advance. [If Advance is not below the Play Control slider, from the Options menu click Advance Controls.] Clicked to select Digital Output Only Clicked Close It worked for me. Good Luck
