I've just installed Win XP Professional on my Celeron PC. The only glitch I encountered was, I could not Turn Off my PC (Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off). Every time I tried to, the PC reboots. I can only turn off my PC in Safe Mode (Startup PC > Press F8 > Safe Mode). Does anyone know what's wrong ?

One or more of your softwares is not compatible with Windows XP. I encountered the same problem after I installed Roxio on my computer. I downloaded the Windows XP upgrade from Roxio and I can turn my computer off now. Hope this help.

You might want to try going to Control Panel/System/Advanced Tab/Startup & Recovery and uncheck Automatically restart on system failure.

I'm afraid Response Number 2 does not work for me. Does this mean I've to check every individual piece of software by uninstalling them / finding patches or upgrades for them ?

um, this will be the case if your power supply doesn't support soft power off.

like say you have a case that is at style (not atx) atx supports soft power on and soft power off, but good old at only utilizes a hard power switch, so when the os tries to shut off (like in win98 screen says it is now safe to turn off pooter) your bios may recognize this as a good time to restart.

try checking for an updated version of your bios.

not quite a solution to your problem ... but speaking about software and it's compatibility to XP ... before you install any software look up information about known issues related to windows XP
