Win Xp Prof start-up Delay after boot-up

Comment:
After booting up real fast, I find a delay of about one to 1-1/2 min during which nothing will execute and some icons in the right bottom corner system tray have an "X"..then there's some intense HD activity after which the "X" disappears & the icon/s are idnicating ok, and all works just fine. What's happening here?

sounds like 2 or more programs are trying to start at the same time you can use msconfig to change the order that progams start

I went to msconfig & disabled all start up programs but there was no change...same delay problem. The only program in the tray, with the "X" is Norton antivirus 2002 which is supposed to be ok with XP. But when I removed it, the start-up delay persists. FYI I am using a P4 - 1.7 on an MSI # MS-6529 motherboard for the 845. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Same here, the only thing I found to fix it was to disable my network card and it runs fine now! So until I can get around this problem my network card will stay switched off!
go to: START/SETTINGS/NETWORK CONNECTIONS then disable LOCAL AREA CONNECTION
