Win XP Preinstall disc

First time building my own system and I'm just looking for some information before putting a strange disc into a blank system. I checked the Search feature but didn't see anything helpful.
I ordered an OEM version of Win XP and received a Win XP Preinstall disc (including Service Pack 1) along with the OS disc.
Is this needed to install XP (for formatting and partitioning the HD maybe?) or do I just go with the XP disc? (if it's not needed to install XP, then what's it for?)

you can boot right off the cd and partition and format from the built-in XP utility.

The OEM Pre-installation CD is for OEM Manufacturers (i.e. those who plan on selling the computer with the OEM Version of XP). The CD allows the manufacturer to basically do some customization, install software, etc, and then "reseal" the computer as though it has never been touched.
In your case, it wouldn't make much sense for you to use it. Just go ahead and install XP like you normally would, straight from the XP CD.
