Don't know, might run a virus check or maybe you need more RAM. when did you start experiencing this?

I have a somewhat semilar problem. I have one way direcPC with a satellite modem, so when I dial up the outgoing land-line connection first thing on bootup, I get an error and the control program ends abruptly, BUT if I do ANYTHING (open a folder, read a txt file, play some music, start a program etc...) before I try to dial up, it works fine. It's like XP has to 'wake up' before it'll attempt something like an internet connection.
anyway I don't know if our problems are linked... I just wanted to complain. good luck.
