Win XP or hardware problem?

OS: Win XP Pro
CPU/Ram: Pentium II/128 mgb

My Windows XP Pro cannot boot.With XP CD inserted into Compaq machine I get the message "Press any key to boot from cd." After pressing any key another message appears "Set up is inspecting
your computer's hardware configuration." After that no more messages on the black screen. Does it mean my hdd is screwed up ?

Did you wait a little afte the second message appeared?? sometimes it takes a long time... :(
