Comment: my friend just got a new gateway computer that had a modem already in it. He took it home, hookd it up, installed AOL, and tried to use it, but nothing. There is a dial tone, and the computer recognizes the modem, and so does aol, but it wont dial for the access numbers. If it finally does, it says "please wait for access numbers" and then goes back to "AOL Needs more information" and goes back to area code and what not. He figured it was the modem, so he went and bought a new one, put it in there, and the same thing happened. After a few tries, it even picked up an operator. He just bought a brand new phone cable and ran it across his room to the phone jack. Now if he runs it to his other computer, he can connect to the net. Any suggestions? And please dont criticize about him having aol or that he should get rid of it or whatever. Thanks in advance

Reply: (edit)not criticism, but can you try another isp's number? maybe it is a problem with the aol setup on the new machine. in the internet connection wizard i believe they give you an option to connect to a 800 number to check for dialup numbers in your area. try to connect to it. brax
