WIN XP install asks for OFFICE data1.msi

Comment:

I'm trying to install Windows XP (upgrade from win 2000) during the "completing installation" phase with 25 minutes to go, the Office professional installer starts up and wants the office 2000 file called data1.msi.

I'm like... "What the hell?!"

So I put the office2k cd in and install can't read it. So then I pull the hard drive, put it in another computer, copy install CD to hard drive and restart XP install.

It asks for the file, I point it to my hard drive where I copied the office install and it is happy and continues. BUT AFTER THAT IT DOES NOTHING!!! I waited for a 1/2 hour and it never finishes installing.

OTHER NOTES:
I had previously installed win2k over my original win2k. That seemed to have killed my OFFICE 2000 installation. I mention this only to show that I HAD office installed but it was not functional when I attempted to install

The same thing happened to me.

What I did was to click on Cancel when it asks for the data1.msi file. XP setup will then appear to do nothing, I left it overnight, when I got up the next morning setup had finished and XP was ready to use. Also Office 2000 continued to run OK.

ALEIGHLUIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sp?

Yippeee yippeee yeeeeee haaaaaaaa!!!!!!

You are absolutely right man! Ironically you just have to let it wait. And for me, it was minutes.

Ironically I let the thing run all night too before I posted this question to the forum but that was after I clicked "OK" and found the office file it was whining about.

TO ALL WHO READ HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM: CLICK CANCEL... don't let it find the office files and let it run for at least a 1/2 an hour.

Microsoft: WHAT A BUNCH OF PUNKS!!!

I have a similar problem. I've already installed windows xp and when I click search for files/folders, xp automatically begins windows installer and asks for the office 2000 sr-1 disc 1 and wants the file data1.msi. I lost my original disc in a flood. Can anyone email me the data1.msi file from office 2000 sr-1 disc1? I think it's about 3 MB. Thanks davidzach@earthlink.net

YAYYYYYYYYYYY!
I HAVE DONE IT!!!!!

I uninstalled Microsoft Office ... then reinstalled it with the Virus checker DISABLED. It installed Word properly and I don't get that infuriating message all the time when I run other programs!!
I really hope this helps, guys!

When working with MSProject 2000, I've got the same problem of the data1.msi file missing. It's not on the installation cdrom. Anyone knows where I can download it?

I am also trying to locate data1.msi on my Office 2K CD - This is required for using the Powerpoint Organisational Chart feature.
It can't find it automatically on the CD, but all the web sites I've visited assure me that it is on the CD. Can anyone tell me where it is, or where else I can get a hold of it (like Mike and Maita above)
Thanks,
Rachel

I FIX the problem, shut down computer, put original Office 2000 Premium disk 1 in cd-rom drive, start computer.

Go to office update, update, all problem were fixed, it find data1.msi on disk, and installed it.

If you still have problem try this !
