Win xp freezes every 10-15 seconds for about 5 seconds. But ive just formatted the machine and theres nothing on it. Also it cant be any viruses as the machine is not connected to the internet. When i checked in the system performance there was 3 spikes to 100% usage every 10 seconds. Another thing is it takes a while to get to the xp log on screen just showing a black screen. And when i do get into windows i cannot open drive c: or my other drive d: without it freezing completely needing to be restarted.
Can anyone help please ?
My setup is
Windows XP pro Epox 8kha+ 256meg 2100 crucial DDR gf3 ti200 Soundblaster live ibm 20gb hd fujistu 6.4 gb hd

Try removing your second HDD

First guess: bad jumper settings on your hard drive(s) Second guess: bad IDE cable, or partially-unseated IDE connections Third guess: failing hard drive Less likely causes: memory timing issues, overheated CPU, failing power supply
I think you'll find a solution to this pretty quickly.

I have the same problem. I ran Win-Me with no problems. Upgraded, then shortly after this started.
