for a while now ive been getting these messages when I try to run certain programs, does this mean that I need a newer version of the program or somrthing more serious.

:message:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Are these 16 bit apps? (maybe 8 bits?)

Have you tried 'run in 95 compatible' mode?
(right click the prog and select properties)

Post back as to which programs youre trying to run.

It does say 16 bit in the the title bar but it wont even let me install it so I can't run it in 95 compatibility mode.
the program is Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Pro

I managed to change the compatibility of the setup file on the disk but it still doesn't work. In 95 + 98/Me it just comes up with another error and it doesn't work in NT or 2000.
any other suggestions?
