this is a really stupid question with what I'm sure is a really stupid answer...
i just helped my boss migrate to a new laptop due to the fact his old one would inexplicably freeze. On his old laptop, when you booted up and the login screen came up, the username would automatically be filled out with the last user that logged on. On the new laptop, this isn't happening... I looked all over the place for an option, even looked for a registry key. does anyone know how to enable this?

G'Day,
Yeah, this is a security policy. If the laptop is attached to a domain then the domain security policy would have to include the setting. I'm sitting at a 2K right now, so I can't give you the exact name, but on you server while logged in as a domain admin goto start > administrative tools > Domain Security Policy ... when that opens goto local policies > security options > "Do not display last username"
thats the setting you are looking for, but remember that changing this would change the setting for the entire domain (and if this is set, no matter what you do to the laptop it'll re-apply the domain setting)
Hope that helps
Russell
