Hi, because my computer froze like 5 times, i restarted my computer, but know there is an error when i am trying to boot up. It says some file is corrupt. In order to fix it put in the cd-row of XP and press r. when i did this and pressed r, it just restarts over and over. Nothing happens. What can be wrong?

Hold down f8 when starting windows. At the startup menu, select 'load last known good configuration' (or something like that).

Bass players do it standing up

Nick,

Disconnect all your printers scanners internet cables etc from the computer.

Only leave the keyboard and mouse and monitor.

Turn pc off and disconnect power cord.
Turn monitor off also.

Hold the power button down for 2 minutes yes with the cord uplugged

Now turn the monitor back on and plug the power cord for pc into a wall outlet.

Try to boot up again....

If you can start to boot tap the f8 key and choose safe mode

once loaded go to start run type in msconfig

Double click the Launch system restore tab

and take your computer back to an earlier time say one week ago.

That should fix it.

If it reboots or freezes in safe mode then you have a hardware problem....

Uh, hi, i tried both of your entries but the same thing appears. The error that comes up is: windows/system32/config/system. Are there other solutions? Other than reformatting.? And btw how do would i repair this installation if i wanted to with this problem. I have looked at several solutions but the same error doesn't let me do anyof them

Your master boot record is corrupted...

So go into bios and set your boot load order to boot to cd rom first then hd 0

It may be the delete key or f1 depends on your system.

Then save and exit. Have xp disk in your cd rom

Look for the press any key to boot from cdrom it comes up fast...

Then it will boot to windows set up

let it go just like it is setting up

do not select the first r to boot to the recovery option keep letting it load until it sees your current install.

At that point it will ask you if you want xp to try to repair it. Say yes and hit r for repair.

You will not lose any files however you will have to reinstall sp1 windows updates etc.

Do that immediately after you get into windows.

Good hint is to only do this repair with the pc monitor keyboard and mouse.

Dont connect anything until you get windows intalled.

Then plug in each printer, scanner, speakers etc one at a time and reboot for each one.

That should fix it...
