Hey guys/gals
I'm trying to install Windows XP on an Asus K8V-X with Seagate SATA hd, 512MB Kingston Value RAM, Radeon 9200SE, floppy, internal USB card reader, add-on Soundblaster Live 5.1. The hd shows up when the SATA boot-ROM loads, but doesn't show up in BIOS settings. When I boot from CD, setup hangs immediately when blue "Windows Setup" screen first pops up ie. no chance to press F6 to install SATA driver. Floppy activity light comes on and stays on when it hangs (but I removed floppy, still hangs). I still think it's a SATA issue. I've partitioned with Seagate software, doesn't help. In BIOS boot settings, floppy and CD drives show up as well as a Via chipset something (is this the SATA hd?) but no obvious SATA hd option.
Any ideas?Thanks in advance

Hi,
I just built a system about a month ago with the exact same board. You have two sata controllers, the Promise Sata/Raid controller and the VIA Sata/Raid controller. I initially had problems with the Promise controller so I switched my drives to the VIA controller and it worked fine. Try the other controller.

I had a rahter hard time installinga SATA on my system.
Here are some hints:
1) Windsows + Sp1 are more supportive with SATA
2) UN-plug any USB divces from the computer!!!I couldn´t install my SATA drive first with winXPpro + Sp1. But after reading that USB could interfear (and I only had my Mouse pluged in one USB slot) I unpluged my mouse and WOLA...my BIOS + Windos found my hard drive and it was just easy sailing from there.
P.s.: I read this in an artivel on the web, wich has step by step installation help with SATA.
The thing is that I can´t remember the site (I have tryed looking, but I just can´t remember what I GOOGLED to find this article).
If I find it, i´ll bare you in mind.
Hope this helped.

OK, got past the original blue Windows Setup screen, loaded the SATA driver, partitioned, formatted, but now when Setup reboots the computer, just hangs at the Windows XP logo screen. AAAARRRGGGHHHH! Anyone else have WinXP Home setup hang at this point?

I got that once when I had both WinXP and old Win98 installed.
Also...how many harddrives do you have? Cold there be an old systems folder on the old drive?
Did you format ther whole SATA disk and do a Clean install of WinXP?
