so you can't login in safe mode either? logging on/off again usually means a corrupt profile - but you should be able to log onto Administrator in safe mode. How about the system restore option of safe mode (it asks when you log on if you want safe mode or system restore). if this lets you in you could restore to before the norton install.

Failing this - either a manual system restore - eg

or a repair reinstall - eg

I tell all my customers never to use Norton (or McAfee). Apart from being cloggers, they both cause more problems (especially at install and uninstall) than any other security suites i know.

none of those have worked, i've tried everything, including the recovery console. I really don't want to have to swip my disk, because i have about 8 GB of music on there.

A Repair Install didn't work either?

I've already done that.
But I fixed already.
What i did was:

Take the hard drive and had all the information I wanted to keep put on dvd's

then I took my Windows Xp install cd and reinstalled the OS and formatted the Hard Drive.

So far everthing is working fine.

Thanks for the help (My Computer is normally this stubborn) and I hope the above ideas helped someone else out there.
