I have recently purchased a new system running WinXP home edition. My previous PC ran 98 and with this I had no problems with my Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem. However I cannot get it to work under XP at all. The installation goes fine and the status symbol turns green to show the modem is running ok and under diagnostics it shows a few packets sent so im fairly sure this isnt a hardware problem as the modem worked fine on my 98 pc.
When I try to set up my ISP I go through the networking wizard and select the broadband option etc but when I try and connect I get an error678. I emailled the ISP support and they told me I need to be connecting through PPPOA and as the broadband option on the network wizard is PPPOE I simply have to change that to PPPOA and I will be fine, that sounded simple enough!
Unfortunately I have not been able to work out how to configure my PPPOA connection. I have tried adding a dial up connection but XP doesnt list my Speedtouch in the modems list when doing this, although the modem appears in device manager and is showing as working ok.Im using the latest version of the drivers for the modem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same problem it does appear that XP likes PPPoE and not PPPoA, I have not found solution so switched to a generic PCI modem, works OK.
