Hi there,

I have recently installed WinXP Pro and I have a
problem. I installed my Alcatel Speedtouch USB
modem (DSL) with latest drivers(PPPoA 1.3.6) and
Windows says it is working properly. But I can
see in the diagnostics that my modem is sending
data but is not RECEIVING any data, when
connecting to the net i get errorcode 721
after a while. Does anyone know how to fix this
problem ? It's driving me crazy :-((

I've seen that error message before...you need to go to alcatel's website and get the 1.4 driver upgrade and everything should work fine. http://www.alcatel.com/consumer/dsl/supuser.htm

Same problem.

1) Download and install alcatel drivers version 1.4 (not for XP but are the latest to date).

2) if no light for ADSL and USB find under Program Files/ Alcatel/tools/ the files DM and SCAN. Run theses and you might see the USB light flicker.

3) reboot the computer and u might be lucky enough to have the driver recognise new hardware and automatically reinstall the Alcatel drivers.

4) if does not work repeat steps 2 and 3. It kinda works reliably for me 1 in 3 times

well, i have the alcatel stingray modem, and i had no problems installing it, but periodically (actually about every ten minutes) the modem loses synch (the right light begins blinking). this of course, disconnects me from the internet. less than ten seconds later, the right light becomes solid green again, and i can reconnect to the internet. i'm using the 1.4 drivers from alcatel, and i'm really unsure of how to resolve the problem. it's quite annoying. any ideas?

I've had all of these problems and seem to have a few others. A few other things to do is to look in the device manager under your modem and under usb devices and make sure you have power management turned off for these devices.

one other problem i have I thought was the modem, turned out to be program related (WinMX)....It causes system to crash to blue screen and shuts down. Says its one of the alcatel drivers, but everything runs fine under Morpheus.

Installed 1.4 driver and still have same prob in XP Pro. Whenever I want to disconnect the system loses it, won't close connection, have to end program then reboot if I want to reconnect.

I have the same problem as mentioned in response 7, the modem loses sync on XP only .. Windows 2000 works fine. I have already,
tried 1.4 drivers for XP, Disabled power save on the USB root hub, disabled hibernation on the pc, diabled MSN messenger (i was told that could cause a problem), disabled all power save.
I run an Epox motherboard with an Intel USB root hub.

I have also checked with my ISP helpdesk and Alcatel. No solution yet.

Okay, let me add to the mystery. I have been running XP with my Alcatel for the last 6 months with NO ERRORS WHAT SOEVER. However 4 days ago, (my PC runs non stop and nothing has been changed) I suddenly get the 721 error when I reboot. I call Bell South tech support and get the an junior asking me to reboot my system and that I need to update my drivers that have been working for the last 6 months. I tell him okay and hang up. Call again and get a cool tech that starts working with the Bell South Networking group to re-provision my Alcatel. But in the midst of this, I get disconnected (S**t!) Call again and get dufus number 2 who wants me to start deleting stuff. I'm afraid to call back (I hung up on him)
I spoke to someone at my job and he said when he got this error, it was the provisioning of the Alcatel. Once he had them re-provision his modem, everything was fine.
Let me know if that works for anyone else.
