I have recently installed Windows XP on my machine and noticed that the system will freeze when i attempt to play any games or videos. My video card is a AOPEN Geforce2 MX-400 w/TV Out AGP2X/4X. I have tried installing different drivers both from Nvidia and AOPEN but the system hang still happens. I have tried running DirectX diagnostics (dxdiag.exe) and even DirectX diagnostics hangs when I test Direct3D settings, however DirectDraw works fine. I am not sure if this is caused by DirectX itself or an AGP Bus problem. I have also tried installing the VIA 4 in 1 Drivers from the VIA site for my motherboard but the problem remains. I was using Windows ME and all my games and videos work fine in WinME after I installed the VIA drivers. But when I upgrade to Windows XP the system hang occurs when I try to play any games or videos. Has anyone else experienced this and fixed it? Please leave me a message. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.
My system specs are: Pentium 500 (SLOT1 KATAMAI) 128MB PC100 SDRAM Zida BX98-3D Motherboard with VIA VT82C691 Chipset AGP 2x AOpen Geforce 2 MX-400 w/TV-Out Windows XP

If I am not mistaken I think Via mobo and win xp and nvidia has serious compatibility problem. I think what you need is Via 4-in-1 driver or something like that to fix all the problem.

In addition to the 4 in 1 also try updating the nvidia driver with the "Detonator" driver available on the Nvidia website.
