Hi guys,

Hopefully someone can help me with this. I just downloaded windows media player 10, the newest one, and no video files are playing for me. I just downloaded an mpeg and a msg comes up saying win media player cannot file the file, check if the file name is correct, etc, when i had just played similar files on win media 9 before the update with no problem. Do i have to connect the player or is it something else? any help would be appreciated. i have xp and everything seems to be normal so its probably just an option or a little thing i am missing, thanks!

Jason

WMP10 requires that you have SP2. Do you?

Hi XpUser. I have been using wmp 10 since the beta long before SP2 came out.
Jason-try going to the tools-options in wmp and check file types and select them.

My suggestion is to uninstall and reinstall. If that doesn't work you might consider going back to 9.0.

Just do a System Restore to a day before you installed it and you'll be good to go.

check again to make sure you know what file type your trying to play. some file types require wmp 10 to have the additional codec installed. first i would reinstall wmp 10 but make sure you restart your computer afterwards.

also, is it doing this on every file you try to play or just certain ones? does it display the orange exclamation mark in the right(now playing list)? if so, right click it and go to info to see if it's calling for a certain codec.
