I'm working on a comp for a friend. Win explorer keeps crashing when we try to run it. Other apps access the web fine, kazaa lite, icq etc.. but IE keeps crashing with the "IE has encounter an error.." msg. I installed norton and it found 6 vruses, 2 of which are adware and could not be removed, but I don't think byt the looks of those two that they would be the root of this problem. I'm tried reinstlling IE over top, didn't change anything. I don't know what else to do besides reinstalling the os, I was maybe going to try installing sp1 as he has not done that yet, but not sure if that would help either. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

turned out to be spyware, didn't think it would be, but ran ad-aware and everything worked, should have known to try that first, thanks for the help.
