win 98 to win xp

ok, so i was running win98 on my compaq, when i decided to change my os to win xp. so i formatted my hard drive, but now i can't get xp to install. it will get as far as the reboot stage, and then it will fail to open up the partition.

get your compaq restore disks and run them ,, this will put the puter back to as it came from the factory,, when finished do a re-boot,, then put the xp disk in the cd and follow the on screen prompts
