Uh ... im not sure wut you mean by 'windows 98 still available to me after a xp upgrade' but if you mean if you can revert back to win98 then no. Not unless you dual boot (just search how to do it on a search engine. Another thing you can try is to update winxp ... they have a few application compatablility updates ive seen. If all else fails try right-clicking the program you want to run and go to properties. In the 'Compatabilty' tab enable the 'Run this program in compatability for:' and choose the OS it worked for?

Oh yeha and one last thing you can try is to go to the website of the developer of the program youre trying to run and check if they have a winxp update for the program. If none of this works then youre pretty f#^!$ed :(. Anyway i hope this helped.

Careful with XP and 2000
i noticed a performance drop on my graphics
card! I used 98 and bench marked it with
PerformanceTest and my geforce3 ti200
scored 980fps on the 3D benchmark
the in installed XP and i noticed a 50% drop! I was getting 467fps same happend with 2000!
i just wanna add that all drivers were
up to date! also i noticed the performance drops ingame too! I say that xp & 2000
is not best for gaming (i have to give it a round of appluse for stability) and the CD burning!

Try this and see if it works ;)

1. right click on the program
2. select compatibility tab
3. in compatibility mode, select your OS (Windows 98)
4. optional - select display setting
5. click OK
