Hi,

I tried searching for answers for this specific problem, but apparently eitehr people dont have it, or they have something similar, so i'm asking here.

I have been trying to install a game which was meant for win 95\98 but after clicking setup.exe the computer simply does nothign and in the task manager, two files appear in the proccess which simply dont do anythign and when i shut them down, an error appears stating:

(the files are wowexec.exe and setup.exe)

error: " the request to end the selected 16 bit task has timed out. the win 16 subsystem may be yunstable. press ok to terminate the win 16 subsystem or cancle to leave it running."

now, how do i fix this? I'd very much like to install said program..

System specs:
Geforce 8600gt, win xp sp 2

Thanks in advance!

I find if an older game or program cannot be installed by
way of its CD, then use "Program Compatibility Wizard" to install it.
Start>All Programs>Accessories

If a game is installed by doing the above, but will not start by
way of the CD, then when inserting the CD, and drawer is closed,
hold down the left SHIFT key for approx. 15 sec.,
to keep AutoRun from taking over.
Now click the game in the "All Programs" list. Should start now.
---------------
From a Microsoft web page:

If an older application gives you trouble when running
Windows XP, you can set the compatibility properties
manually so that the program runs in a different mode,
such as Windows 95, or in a different display or resolution
setting. To set the compatibility properties for a program:
1. Right-click the executable or the program shortcut to the
executable, and then click Properties.
2. Select the Run this program in compatibility mode check box.
3. From the list, select an operating system that the program
runs in comfortably.
4. If necessary, also change the display settings and/or
resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes.
Run the program again when you're finished changing the
settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again if the
program is still not running smoothly: a program that's
unhappy on Windows 2000 may flourish on Windows 98.

If you have a legal Win 9X CD, you can download from Microsoft site Virtual PC 2007 (it's free) and then setup a virtual machine to install your legacy games inside that. Easier to do than to explain and you are rewarded by big fun.
