Subject: will not bootOS: XPCPU/Ram: Pent III/ 320mb |
Comment: My Windows will not boot past the logo screen. It will stay at this screen for about 5 to 7 mins, then it reboots. The system will not go into safe mode due to "Explorer.exe not loading properly" and have to click ok to terminate. This system was running fine, ran and installed windows updates, updated antivirus, installed SP2. No problems. But...when I tried to use a thumb dive (via usb) it had trouble detecting it. It was then when I was unable to boot past the windows screen. Kye

Reply: (edit)Steppenwolf: I cannot get into the OS to even look at add/remove prog. Taunet: I went into the setup to change boot order to boot from the cd-rom...but nothing happens because it does not get past the logo screen, the blue bar just keeps scrolling across for about five mins. now I try to go in safe mode but this "exploer.exe- application error" keeps comming up.

Reply: (edit)Thumb drive should not have software in XP...simply remove it. Go into bios and set cdrom to 1st or second boot in order if it still will not boot up and pass first "R" request choose new install and then choose repair second time it is offerred.

Reply: (edit)When you say that the boot sequence is "not responding" do you mean it isnt taking any notice of the changes you have made? If so, when you go back into BIOS are the changes reset to default? If the changes do stay as they should try making it so that the cdrom drive is the ONLY device that the computer can boot from. 1st boot device=cdrom, second=none, third= none, dont check for any other boot devices. This is the last thing i can think of trying... Mattwww.bbcomputing.co.uk matt@bbcomputing.co.uk
