Comment: My PC will not boot up. I am running Windows XP. When the PC starts, it goes to check the disk, as what happens when the PC was shut down improperly. The disk checks ok and then the pc shuts down. It starts by itself again and asks if I want to do a safe start or other kinds of starts. I have selected each one of those starts but the same thing happens and the PC shuts down. Also, if you select do not check disk, it still shuts down and restarts again. The only other clue is that for some days I was hearing a strange whining sound from the hard disk. Can anyone help, please. Thanks!

Reply: (edit)Reboot your system while holding down the F8 key. At the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select Last Known Good Configuration. If that does not work, run System Restore in Safe Mode. You should check your HD using a disk utility program that you can get at the disk manufacturer's web site. Hope this helps.

Reply: (edit)I just built a computer and I am having the exact same problem as you. Hard drive is probably not the problem. What motherboard do you have? What modem? What Ram? Do you have different types of ram mixed? USB or PS2 keyboard? I am narrowing it down on my PC This will help me compare.
