will not boot from CD rom

Specs: Windows XP
trying to install new mainboard. after loading bios it says press any key to boot from cd only it refuses to read the hd instead and says ntldr is missing.. will however boot and run windows setup if the hd is not conected

wallywallop, sounds to me like you need to alter the BIOS to make it read the CD for info. Sounds like it's expecting to find the data on the HDD. Seems like the installation CD woulda done that, but...

thx for u help ed found the problem and setup is chugging along now nicely. tho i dont see how the symptoms related to the problem which was a ram setting in Advanced bios //: os select for DRAM > 64mb // changed the setting to OS/2 and that was it. cheers
