Reply: (edit)without knowing anything specfic about that modem im sure one of the windows modem drivers will do the job....whether the performance would be any good well i dunno. I havent really heard of that modem and even alot of big modem brands havent got xp drivers yet....win 2000 drivers all seem to do the job so i'd say you shouldn't really have a problem.....

Reply: (edit)I am using a Conexant 56K AC-Link Voice Modem on my Gateway and can't get it to work with any of the drivers (whether NT or 2000) that I have downloaded. It keeps asking me for the ClchHal.sys file and when I point to that file it then tells me that winachsf.sys causes a stability problem and the device will be disabled. For any of you tech's out there, the ATI3 response on my modem while running WinME is SoftK56V_B2.1_V2.14.07 Please help if you can. Thank you! Richard

Reply: (edit)This may help a bit...Win XP has a driver protection database. If a driver matches something on the list it will not be allowed to install. The winachsf.sys driver is on that list, therefore you cannot install it. I have the same problem and as soon as I figure it out I will post a link with the updated driver. If you can change the winachsf.sys file enough (link date, filename or version numbers) XP will accept the file. See this link for more information http://www.microsoft.com/hwdev/driver/drv_protect.asp Simon

Reply: (edit)Hey Everyone..I may have your problem solved. There is a company in Australia who manufacture Web Excel Modems using the Rockwell Conexant GVC+1156IV chipset. They also have a win XP driver for the modem. This driver Works!!! Only mail me to thank me...Not to complain if you cant get it to work! LOL I've posted the link as my home page URL and in text below. Good luck everyone...Heres how to do it. Make sure your firmware is the most current or the driver wont work. You can download an upgrade from the same site I have listed below. Also make sure you get rid of all previous attempts to install the modem as XP will keep looking for the winachsf.sys file when installing. This means deleting all related drivers from existing directories on your hard disk as well as any relevant setup files, .DLL, .SYS and .INF files from the windows/system and windows/system32 diretories. Here is a list of the files you will need to find and remove.
AmosNT.sys Basic2.sys CNXHSF.cat cscxcpl.cpl D215DT5.inf disk1 Fallback.sys FaxNT.sys FSKsNT.sys H215DT5.inf K56nt.sys hsfinst.dll RKsample.sys S215DT5.inf SpkpNT.sys TonesNT.sys V124nt.sys V215DT5.inf Winachsf.sys Some of these files may vary...check your ORIGINAL install disk for your exact version to make sure these files are correct for your modem. These drivers are used by WinME, Win2K and Win 9x. File sizes will vary depending on the operating system. Heres the URL of the new drivers: http://www.protac.com.au/files/modem/index.html Scroll down to "WinXP Drivers for PT3515 PCI modem", select it then hit download. When you have downloaded the drivers, extract to a blank directory and run setup.exe. If this does not install the modem just use the add/remove programs in control panel. This driver does not use winachsf.sys as its core driver so you should have no problems. Cheers, Simon

Reply: (edit)Append Reply Number 11 after you run the setup the first time the drivers will be extracted to this directory: c:/program files/UIU Here you then need to run the setup program found at this location to install the modem drivers Cheers, Simon

Reply: (edit) Ok ... just tried the above listed driver and it's working like a charme ... it says it's the XP driver for the 56k ac-link hsf modem on-bord the brooking mainboard ... this machine here is a Gateway 2000 PIII desktop pc ... XP detected it as a PCI modem and when i tried the supplied win2k drivers it said "Conexant WINACHSF" ... instability blah blah blah ... you know :)) anyway, this one is sorted now ... sometimes it's not a bad idea to look up the manufacturers homepage :))
regards, Matti
