I hope someone can help me with this - its driving me crazy! Every time I open a shortcut, Windows XP search pops up. I can't follow the shortcut unless I right-click and go to "open." I know is a registry setting, but I have no idea where to look! Is it HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT? THANKS!!!!

Mike, Go to the link below and download the "LNK (Shortcut) File Association Fix" zip file. Download the ZIP and open it. Extract the REG file to your hard disk and double click it. Answer yes to the import prompt.

Hi again, and thanks for the quick responce! It didn't work though, is there somewhere else in the registry that controls the default action to take when opening a certain file type? Because "search" is bold (the default) when I right click any shortcut. THANKS AGAIN!!!
