first off i apologize if i have 2 posts up for the same
problem. i wrote one message and as far as i can tell it
never posted. anyway, my machine is putting itself into
standby on its own. this can happen at any time but
usually before i even boot up all the way. once in
standby, i can't get it out without resetting my machine,
which means that my pc is unsuable right now :( i
checked the control panel settings and standby is turned
off. I also tried removing the mobo battery to reset the
defauts and it didn't help. it seems to work fine when i
boot up in safe mode, but thats it. any ideas? i need help!
I'm worried that i have a hardware problem, but i really
don't have a clue.

xenophone, SWAG, power supply. A dying PS can put out some power, but not enough which can, in turn, cause all manner of strange problems. Perhaps you can substitute another to see?

tried the clean boot thing, with all that stuff disabled in
msconfig the problem persists. tried a different PS and
problem persists. I can't find anything concerning standby in
bios, but tried resetting to defaults to no avail.
