8 mb are neccessery because the windows write information about the partitions
don`t worry about this space
it leaves 8 mb on all computers

Actually the 8MB is BEFORE the partition.

Actually the space can be either before or after a partition. I believe it is a result of the LBA translation interaction wiith the CHS setting for a partition. A partition has to begin and end on a physical boundary. If you use partition magic to re(size) you will see the size increment by 8 (actually closer to 7.8) MB.

Well according to THIS, the 8MB is created when you used Windows setup program (CLICK ME) to create the partition. The 8MB is reserved in case you wish to Dynamic Disk. MSKB 225822 further stated that the Dynamic disk information is saved at the end of the disk, not before any partition.

On this OEM PC, I have multiple partitions but no 8MB partition. I used Partition Magic to create them.
