Hi,

Was just curious to see if anyone know why the dial up connection keeps opening up all the time. There is two dell optiplexs, that each have a gigabit ethernet cards.

These two boxes are networked sharing the internet via router, and file and printer sharing enabled. Everytime a browser is accessed it asks to dialup. I don't know think but am not sure, if there is even a modem in either one of the boxes, let alone a dialup connection.

Both nics operate normally when you cancel the dialup. Would this have been something from the windows home lan maker or whatever it is called?

You know what sucks.

I had same problem when I setup a network. The Second part is your fix--

Windows XP users:

1. Click on the "Start" button and select "Control Panel."
2. Double-click on the "Internet options" icon.
3. Click on the "Connections" tab.
4. Select "Never dial a connection" under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings."
5. Click "Apply and "OK" to close.

You also need to disable windows XP auto dial feature:

1. Click on Start
2. Click on Control Panel
3. Click on Network and Internet Connections
4. In the left hand window pane click on the My Network Places link
5. In the left hand window pane click on the View Network Connections link
6. Click on "Advanced" in the Menu bar
7. Click on "Dial-up Preferences" from the drop down menu
8. Select the AutoDial tab
9. Remove the checkmark by the connection listed in the scroll box
10.Click on OK.

Thanks it's been so long that I forgot about these things. Thought that was just a problem in 98 (I guess it's not a problem). I mean I thought they deal with it differently from 98 to XP.

Thanks for jogging the old alzheimers.
