I JUST re installed the operating system and installed all my software. Now, upon bootup, it says Applying your computer settings for like 2 min before the ctrl alt del comes up and it takes like 3 minuites to load all the startup items. When I first installed Windows, it took no time to start up. The Applying your computer settings was less than a minuite. Why is it so slow now?

I want my computer to start up fast and I don't like the startup programs to be prioritized once I am using the system.

These are the programs I have. I need to know whats taking up space which makes the computer slow. Please tell me how to stop them from starting up, it should also eliminate the slowness in "Applying your computer settings."

Those are ALL your programs...I was expecting a screenshot of your startup list. I suggest you dump Google toolbar (it's spyware) & also get rid of McAfee. Replace it with one of the decent free anti-virus programs such as Avast.

Avast! Home Edition 4.8.1229

There are a few ways to check which programs load at startup. You can go to Start > Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK. Click on the Startup tab then look over the list. Uncheck any program you don't want loading, click apply, then reboot.

How to use MSCONFIG in Windows XP

Another way is to use CCleaner. Not only can you use it to dump temp internet files, cookies, history, etc & clean the registry, but if you click on Tools > Startup, you'll find the same list as using MSCONFIG. You can either enable/disable or delete the startup entries.

CCleaner 2.11.636
