when i got to certain web pages it tells me my browser is unsupported. what is causing this and how can i fix it?

The problem is not with your browser, it's with the web page.
Microsoft sells a product called "Frontpage" that it claims can create web pages. It does not do that. It creates a microsoft application that can only be displayed correctly using Internet Explorer. It's all part of their overall scheme to have everyone use their products.
If a site uses html code that is compliant with W3C standards (w3c.org) it will display correctly in ALL browsers.
So your problem lies in the fact that the person who created the site was some stupid dipstick who used frontpage rather than learn some basic html.
Don't start using IE though....that is unless you want to use the oldest, most insecure browser on the planet. What you should do is fire off an email to the site's webmaster informing him that his site is broken. It's like picking up trash on the side of the road; you can't get it all, but every little bit helps.
