Lately I've been seeing lots of nasty people on-line that are ordering people around. Some are really nasty when a member posts a hijack log. Some other types of logs seem to disappear for no reason while others with more non-sensical content stay on. This is quite confusing to me. Members helping members is great and makes for a great forum.

I noticed that too but CN policy is to discourage HJT posting unless one of us ask for it.

In any event, Kevin the Tech Dude is the moderator and Justin Webb owns this site. They will respond in time to any complaints.

Sorry for my ignorance, I realize that they are discouraging members to post here, but is it not up to the moderators to handle this? Also, who do you mean by one of us will ask for it? That would enlighten me.
Thanks alot for answering my question so speedily.

Actually that would be Justin Weber.

If you feel that a post is offensive or contravenes site rules then you can make use of the "Report Offensive Follow Up For Removal" feature.

Why don't they make computers that will do what we think we want them to do?

My bad I meant Justin Weber.

What I meant by "asking for it " is to request that you post a HJT here so I can help you further toward possible solution.

If you "Sally G" invite someone to post the HJT log in the "proper" place which is the Security and Virus forum.

You "Sally G" will be expected to deal with it, as you invited the log to be posted, not do a hit and run...

Thanks a bunch for all the replies :)
Does that mean that the rude members should butt out? I don't see any need for hostility in a good site like this. I notice that the rude ones always seem to be the same and might deserve to be corrected?

I thought that the rule was you could post a HJT log as long as you posted it in the Security and Virus forum, and as long as you had run Spybot and AdAware and an AV scan first, and so stated. Where and when did the invitation part develop?

In a forum as open as this, you will always have rude people, wackos, idiots, and the like, but my experience is that they're taken care of pretty quickly.

Conversely, those who are new and not as experienced as some are dealt with gently and kindly for the most part.

Computing.net have a strict policy on HJT logs..if it isn't asked for then it normally ends up being deleted.

also if a thread starts to get out of hand [flaming]..then that usually ends up being deleted.

I would say that CN is proberbly one of the most sober help forums around and very well run and moderated..

yes sometimes things go missing/deleted, but usually for good reason.

Happy Holiday

Depends - what can be interpreted as rude might be intended as tongue-in-cheek.

Contributers often disagree - that's to be expected - but if it breaks down into name calling or offensive language then those posts probably should be reported.

"Do not post mean-spirited or offensive messages. Use common sense for this rule, as the moderators will do the same."

Justin Weber instituted the rule in this post in February 2004.

HiJackThis logs go bye bye if you just post them. As far as people being rude. As was stated. If you feel someone is being rude, report them.

Is that simple.

BTW, I am moderator.
