White Dots on Black Screen in XP

I have a Geateway Select 1000 PC with a VX1100 21" monitor also. I recently have tried to upgrade from Win2kPro to XP pro and also tried a clean install of XP. Install goes perfect, no issues. When the computer reboots for the last time after installation, just after the Windows XP Splash screen....I get 2 or 4 tiny white dots on the left hand side of an otherwise BLACK screen and can go no further. I can run fine in safe mode, but it appears that XP can't recognize my VX1100 Monitor(Just shows Default Monitor). Win2k had NO problems with my Gateway monitior. Anyone have any ideas?

sounds like a video card lock up. try updating your video card drivers, or removing the video card from the device manager and let windows redetect it.

Probably either the refresh rate or the video driver if it works fine in safe mode. Check with Gateway and see if they have any drivers for your video card. You can use either XP or win2000 drivers.
