I just bought a new computer via the egg. and am purchasing a Q6600 aslong as a 8800GTS 640mb/320bit.
I generally use sony vegas 8, the cs3 collection, but at hte same time play some games, but upgrading from a geforce5200 to an 8800gts id imaginze id be playing a lot more games.
But i dont kno exactly what i should be runnin. im in love with windows and can make it do things russian strippers cant even do, but the only down side is its dx10 support. ive heard theirs a hack out, is it worth it?
and as for vista, my only experience is hearing all of the negatives, and having numerous vista computers crash on me at numerous best buys.
also how well will most games run on 64bit xp? right now gtasa, aoe2 and cs 1.6 run fine on it, but thats all i play...
should i just dual boot?
any help and actual experiance would be greatly appreciated.
p.s. will i be able to run FSX?

Don't get an 8800GTS. There are better cards that are at least $50 cheaper...the Radeon HD4850 for example.
You will also need a decent power supply. I suggest a minimum of 500W & preferrably a unit with a single +12v rail of at least 32A. Plan on spending $75-100 for a PSU (before rebate)

ive alredy purchased a 750w psu and the 8800gts. i refuse to go ati. ive had a total of 3 experiences with them and and a total of 3 bad experiences.

Like Math?If your CPU is still an AMD 2400+... eh... stick with WinXP. If you have a better CPU, you might as well get Vista.

go ahead and get vista.....not......stay with xp.
Vista is so bad that windows 7 will break out in a year...Don't spend good money after bad products.http://windows7news.com/2008/05/28/...
Vista is just another bad decision of M$ and should have been scrapped along with the old name of lonhorn!

I just had a look at 8800GTS prices & they're about the same as the HD4850. The ATI card is still the better card though. Anyhow, I hope you chose your PSU wisely.

My guess is they were all problems that you brought on yourself.

to jam - hmmm wrong guess. my laptops ati card likes to crash, and doesnt like to support higher resolutions nor does it agree with standard amd/ati drivers - so i run omega.
but as to razor -I have bought as follows to be delivered wednesday
Q6600
Evga 680i MB
EEvga8800gts
corsair 4gb ram

In that case, might as well go with Vista. Your new box can more than handle the extra overhead of Vista, and there are other, non-gaming advantages to Vista. You might even get away with Vista x64.

The vast majority get them to work without having to resort to Omega drivers. I stand by my "guess"

ima just run x64 xp with the dx10 hack.

If you are after DX10, it won't happen in XP.
As far as the hack that's out there. I installed it on my XP machine, but don't have a DX10 exclusive game to test it out on. So I can't give a credible assessment on it. If you end up going the Vista route-you might as well, you shouldn't have issues with the 64-bit edition. I had both 32-bit & 64-bit on this machine at first, but have since gotten rid of the 32-bit installation & kept the 64-bit instead.
