Subject: which file system should I use?
Comment:

I recently got a copy of Windows XP Professional, and I am looking foward to installing it. I am planning on doing a clean install, and would like to know what file system is better. I read that XP professional can either format the drive as FAT32 or NTSF, which one should I use? keep in mind that XP will be on Drive D, as Windows 3.11 will be installed on C.

i think you have to run the FAT32 since the NTFS is nt5.1 and i think it wont let older systems run on it.But NTFS is more stable than the FAT32 but you can also go to microsoft.com and look around for an answer.

if you want to access your d: drive from dos/win3.1 you're better off with NTFS ... dos cannot read fat32 (as far as i know) though there are tools to access ntfs from dos

I can't speak from experience here but i think you are going to create an unhappy combination here. If all your partitions and drives are FAT32 then that is what you should install XP on. NTFS and FAT32 cant see each other and you will not be able to share files between the two. Windows 3.11 is a 16bit operating system and I am not sure of the relationship here. I think you should some serious consideration towards upgrading your 3.11 OS.

The only reason I am usig Win3.11 and XP, is so that I can use my 16 bit programs with out conflict(and I don't particularly like Win9x's non-stability). So I don't need 3.11 to see my XP partition, but XP will see the 3.11 partition.
So any more help?
