Hi, I'm trying to figure out what blank dvds to use with my burner, hopefully someone here can help me. It's an HP DVD +-RW drive, to me it sounds like I can use both dvd+r dvd-r, is that right?

These days, yes. It used to be that you had to be carefull to choose the ones for your machine but it's not so anymore. The newer machines (as well as home DVD players) can read just about anything.

However if you plan on using the disk in your home DVD player then you need to stay away from the cheap '100 pack for $1.99+tax' type disks. Home DVD machines do not have the kind of error read and correction capabilities that computer DVD machines have so they need good quality disks.

It's mostly a matter of trial and error until you find a brand that your recorder likes. Most are not very fussy.

I was never asking about brand, just about the type, which I believe blackbill answered, thank you.

I always use DVD-R

The + can sometimes cause problems with your set-top dvd player on different types or media..

90% of all dvd players out there will accept DVD-R

well, I just found out that Memorex DVD+R discs do not work with it, they aren't even recognized by the drive.

hi,
yea drives can do that..best bet do not buy spindles of disks ..buy 1 at a time until you find what will work with your drive.can get costly buying 50 disks at once and have them not work.

I tend to disagree. I was using DVD-R discs and half of them wouldn't play on my house players. When I swtiched to DVD+R discs, I haven't had a coaster yet...touch wood!

friendly and helpful for better computing in all areas *smile*

well if they sold singles around here I would have got those, but they only sell spindles of 20-50 and 3-5packs in jewel cases (which cost almost as much as a spindle of 20).

Maxell DVD-R works, but now I found out that my burner can burn dual layer :) dvd+r discs, so off to find those.
