Where is the registry on hard drive

the files are contained seperately in the %SystemRoot%\System32\Config directory

All over the place actually. They are stored in the folder that Macker2 mentions but on the drive they could be anywhere. Data is not stored on the drive in any consecutive order.

The registry files on XP are software, sam, system, default, security and NTUSER.DAT for individual profile information. The first 5 are the registry hives and are stored in the %systemroot%\system32\config folder where %systemroot% is C:\windows by default.
